I almost resorted to trout fishing this weekend. I heard they’re biting over at Del Valle…..I mean it’s not bad, I like trout……….but c’mon, they are boring to fish for in Lakes. River fishing for trout, bangin’. Any ways, I’m pretty much over the rain and cold right now. The fishing sucks, it’s cold as hell, and your fingers freeze. You have to work your ass off for a good bite. Is it worth it, yeah, when you get bit but the action is horribly slow.
Rat Rogers and I put in a lot of work last winter and the fishing was tough at all of the lakes we went to, Del Valle, Los Banos Creek Res, Calero, the Delta, etc. I did manage to get a nice 7 pounder at the Delta one cold rainy day last January which I think was bigger than 7 due to the fact that it -10(actually maybe 44 F) and the scale was frozen. That same day, I got a 5 pounder. Those two fish were my only two bites all day long.
I’m pretty sure there is a lot of fisherman who might disagree with me and I’m not saying stay home all winter. I’ve heard of a lot of big fish being caught in the winter and it happens quite regularly. I say stay home, save gas money, save up for those new rods, chill with a lady, and wait for the pre-spawn. This weekend, I’m going to fish on land, at the bar. I got some new lures and techniques, so hopefully I’ll get bit.
