Lunker Dogs, new craze in the south bay
Get your swimbait rod and a big ass treble hook. Then some 65 pound braid with a steel leader and a long ass gaff. End it off with a pack of Oscar Myer wieners and hook those babies up. You’re now ready for Dog Fishing! Check this 45 pounder we just landed. Thing was frisky and real smart. He would try to bite the line off but he wasn’t getting through the steel leader. The Carolina Rig….
…is da chit. If you have not given it a chance, you should when the time is right. The reason why I think that it is so affective is because of the slow rate of fall when using a leader of 18″ or more. I never used a carolina rig until I met this dude named Jesse. He would throw Carolina rigs with 1/2 oz weights and get the distance needed to effectively use this presentation and bring it across Main Lake points or Sunken Islands. It has a slow fall when it hits the water because the weight will sink faster than the bait. It also has a slow response to the anglers movements from their rod tip when they try to give it a little action making it’s movements as subtle as possible. Another plus about this presentation is that it can be fished either fast or slow. I’ve personally had great success at Anderson and Calero by using this technique with a 1/2oz or 3/8oz weight attatched to the rig while pulling a Gator Pup(which you probably can’t find anymore) or a Brush Hog along the bottom during either the pre spawn or post summer season. I’ve heard that it can be killer while dragging a Senko behind but personally, I haven’t tried that. Throw some Carolina Rigs Next time the bite is slow and maybe it’ll help you get some fish to the boat. TIGHT LINES!!

ps. kooks can go to hell. don’t use carolina rigs, you’re better off using minnows!
